Thank you for your interest in the Food, nutrition and dining education program –
Identifying, managing and monitoring eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties
A workshop for leaders
The Food, Nutrition and Dining Targeted Education Program focussing on Eating, Drinking and Swallowing (EDS) difficulties is a free education and quality improvement initiative for aged care services. Delivered by qualified health professionals, it provides practical education, tailored advice and a suite of training and learning materials for responsible persons. This training will promote best practice care and service delivery at the operational level, supporting responsible persons to manage the risk of preventable choking deaths in aged care.
Expressions of interest to take part in this program are now open.
We will be prioritising services based on the following:
- aged care homes in small rural towns, remote communities and very remote communities
- residential care homes under the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Flexible Aged Care Program
- small providers that have 1-2 services across registration categories, and medium providers that have 3-10 services across registration categories
- smaller residential care homes (with 60 or less residents)
- registered providers with a history of SIRS notifications relating to eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties (such as incorrect provision of food and drinks, aspiration or choking).
We have a limited number of places available this year. While all applications will be considered, please note that submitting an expression of interest does not guarantee participation in the program.
The program will initially be offered to registered providers delivering services under category 6. Providers registered in other categories are encouraged to apply for future rounds of the program.
Please note, only successful applicants will be contacted.
