SURVEY FOCUS

Welcome, you have been invited to participate in this survey as part of your organisation's/club's commitment to initiatives that promote greater inclusion of people of diverse sexuality and/or gender.

We acknowledge that this survey focuses on areas which may be only one of many diversity initiatives within your organisation. While this survey does not specifically focus on other areas of diversity, we do ask about other parts of your background or identity in an effort to understand how these factors may impact on your experiences or attitudes towards inclusion initiatives supporting people of diverse sexuality and/or gender.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE

Pride in Sport empowers organisations, using an evidence-informed approach, to develop leading practice in LGBTQ+ inclusion for the benefit of all Australian Communities. We manage the Pride in Sport Index (PSI), a definitive national benchmark on LGBTQ+ inclusion in sport.

Participation in this survey is anonymous. The data you provide is linked only to the name of the Organisation / club that provided you with this survey. Your name, specific location, etc. is not requested nor kept within the survey at any time.

Your Organisation / club will be provided with de-identified data, at a summary level to assist in determining the overall impact of work in this area. Comments are provided exactly as written. Please do not include any information within comments including your name etc., which may be used to identify you.

Individual response data will also be provided to the Organisation / club as long as there is a sufficient level of responses to ensure that confidentiality of individual results is maintained. Free text answers and comments will not be included in this report.

De-identified data is also analysed internally by the Pride in Sport team and may be provided to academic advisers under strict confidentiality conditions, to identify patterns and correlations that can assist in determining the effectiveness of initiatives.

Further information can be provided on request.

SURVEY TERMINOLOGY INFORMATION

Throughout this survey we use the term ‘LGBTQ+’ to refer to all people of diverse sexualities and/or genders. We use LGBTQ+ as shorthand for the sake of brevity, acknowledging that LGBTQ+ communities are far more diverse than this acronym suggests.

We acknowledge that language is continually evolving. There are many variations of this acronym, which may include intersex people, asexual people, sistergirl and brotherboy First Nations people, and others. The terminology of sexuality and gender diverse is also gaining popularity.

Pride in Sport has also affirmed the Darlington Statement in support of intersex-led organisations driving all work and support in terms of intersex inclusion within the workplace. For more information on the Darlington Statement and how this impacts the work of Pride in Sport, and this survey, please follow this link.

Throughout the survey, we use a range of terms when discussing specific portions of the LGBTQ+ community including:
  • diverse sexuality,
  • diverse gender and/or trans experience,
  • LGBTQ+ (to encompass all the above).

FUTHER TERMINOLOGY:

Sex recorded at birth: The sex which was written on your original birth certificate.
Gender: The term that you feel best describes your gender identity. This may not be your legal sex.
Sexual orientation: The term that best describes your romantic, emotional, and/or sexual attraction.
Diverse sexuality: Anyone who does not identify as "straight/heterosexual” is considered to have a diverse sexuality.
If you identify as "straight/heterosexual”, you will not be provided with questions aimed at understanding the experiences of employees/participants of diverse sexuality.
Diverse Gender &/or Trans Experience: Anyone who has identified a gender that is not the same as their sex recorded at birth is considered to have a diverse gender and/or trans experience.
If your gender identity aligns with the sex recorded for you at birth, you will not be provided with questions aimed at understanding the experiences of trans and/or gender diverse employees and participants.

These additional sections will be clearly labelled prior to questions being asked.
