Have Your Say
The NDIS Commission is consulting on the mandatory registration of Supported Independent Living (SIL) and Support Coordination supports, with consultation activities running from October 2024 to March 2025. No reforms will be implemented before 1 July 2025.
How to participate:- Complete the Survey
- Submit a written response to the consultation paper via email - consultation@ndiscommission.gov.au
Survey and submissions will be open until 7 March 2025.
Information about other consultation activities can be found on the NDIS Commission’s regulatory reform hub webpage.
Through this consultation, we want to understand the practical implications of mandatory registration for participants, their supporters, providers and approved quality auditors in relation to these supports. Your feedback will help determine appropriate implementation timeframes and considerations to maintain continuity of supports during the transition.
For Participants and their supporters
Starting no earlier than 1 July 2025:
- All SIL and support coordination providers must register with the NDIS Commission
- You can continue receiving your current supports while providers work towards registration
- If your provider chooses not to register, support will be available to help you find a new registered provider
For Providers
The NDIS Commission is proposing changes to registration groups and possible transition processes for the mandatory registration of SIL and support coordination. No changes or transition to mandatory registration will occur before 1 July 2025.
For SIL Providers
We are proposing a new way to classify SIL within Registration Group 0115 to make mandatory registration simpler.
Key proposed changes:- Create a specific category within the existing Registration Group 0115 called Assistance with Supported Independent Living
- Registration becomes mandatory registration for all SIL providers
What this would mean for you:- If you provide SIL services, you'll need to register
- If you deliver other supports like Short Term Accommodation (STA), Medium Term Accommodation (MTA) or Individualised Living Options (ILO), these supports will not be impacted.
For support coordination providers
We are proposing a new way to organise support coordination under a single Registration Group to make mandatory registration simpler.
Key proposed changes:- All support coordination would be consolidated under Registration Group 0132
- Registration becomes mandatory for all providers delivering any level of support coordination
- Your registration conditions will specify which level of support coordination you're approved to deliver based on your demonstrated skills and qualifications
What this would mean for you:
Level 1: Support connection
• Mandatory registration required
• Must complete a certification audit against the Core Module
• Registration conditions will specify basic support coordination skills requirement
Level 2: Coordination of supports
• Mandatory registration required
• Must complete a certification audit against the Core Module
• Registration conditions will specify intermediate support coordination skills requirement
Level 3: Specialist support coordination
• Mandatory registration required
• Must complete a certification audit against both:
- Core Module
- Specialist support coordination Module
• Must meet specialist skills requirement
