Registration of Platform Providers
Platform Providers play an important role in supporting NDIS Participant choice, control and flexibility. They are also an example of innovation in the NDIS market. We want to ensure participant choice and market innovation continue to be encouraged. We also want to enhance our regulatory oversight and make sure Platform Providers consistently deliver good quality services, safely. We also want to ensure that by requiring Platform Providers to be registered with the NDIS Commission we are improving the experience of Participants, Workers and other NDIS Providers using them.
Through consultation, we want to hear from Participants, Workers and Providers about registering all Platform Providers with the NDIS Commission to deliver NDIS supports. Consultation will focus on defining Platform Providers and the impacts of mandatory registration.
How NDIS Participants and Workers help define Platform Providers
NDIS Participants and Workers engaging with Platform Providers offer valuable and practical insights. Understanding the relationships NDIS Participants and Workers have with Platform Providers will help with how Platform Providers should be defined. We are working towards having all Platform Providers registered with the NDIS Commission. We also want to preserve what NDIS Participants and Workers value the most about their engagement with Platform Providers.
Continuing the conversation started in 2023 with the Own Motion Inquiry into Platform Providers
The questions in this survey are more focused than the online survey conducted in 2023 for the Own Motion Inquiry into how Platform Providers Operate in the NDIS Market. NDIS Participants and Workers gave such valuable feedback to last year’s survey, there are questions we don’t need to ask again.
Key terms:- NDIS Participants: people with disability who receive NDIS funding to access NDIS services and supports.
- Workers: People delivering NDIS funded services and supports to participants, regardless of how they are engaged or the service relationship. ‘Workers’ includes but is not limited to employees, sub-contractors, independent contractors and sole traders. Workers may also be NDIS Providers who interact with Platform Providers to link with NDIS Participants.
- NDIS Platform Provider: Refers to an online business that NDIS Participants and Workers use to connect. NDIS Participants join NDIS Platform Providers to find services and supports they need. Workers join NDIS Platform Providers to connect with NDIS Participants who might need their services. NDIS Platform Providers include registered Providers and unregistered Providers.
Things to note about the survey:
• It is voluntary
• It can be anonymous
For Participants: The survey is not related to your NDIS plan. Your planner cannot see your answers and it will not have any impact on your NDIS plan, funding or services. The questions in the survey will support us to better understand how Participants engage with Platform Providers to assist with defining Platform Providers and progress registration of Platform Providers.
For Workers: The survey is not connected to any Provider or organisation. Your answers cannot be seen by any NDIS Platform Provider or NDIS Provider. The questions in the survey will support us to progress registration of Platform Providers.
